Vacancies

Vacancies, when they occur, are advertised here and on our Facebook page.

We are an equal opportunities employer, and actively encourage applications from people form a range of diverse backgrounds.

Experienced Veterinary Assistant

We are looking for an experienced vet to complement our existing team.  We have also employed a new graduate who has seen lots of practice with us, and feel that we need a more experienced head to help replace one of our assistants, who is taking off for a year abroad. We rarely advertise for vets, as we tend to grow our own from students onwards.

We have just moved into a purpose-built premises, with multiple theatres, a dental suite, dedicated ultrasound and radiography rooms, plus wonderful spacious dog and cat wards for our patients.  Our large animal building has two equine exam rooms, with stocks, an equine theatre, and two dedicated “lambing rooms” for the visiting sheep or calves of the area. We also have a dedicated stables for equine inpatients. We hope to continue to expand our services with all the extra space.

We have scope for the right candidate to work in the area that interests them most. We are a genuinely mixed practice, with vets treating all species out of hours, but the scope to pursue your main interests during the day. We have multiple certificate holders working in the practice, so although the bulk of our work is first opinion, we provide a high standard of services to our clients and their animals.

We are in the market town of Penrith, the gateway to the Lake District. As well as a great location, we have great clients.

As a practice, one of our major “things” is staff retention. We have a great team, who complement each other brilliantly. We invest in equipment to provide the best services, but also in our team in the form of CPD and certificates. We offer the following benefits as we believe in treating people well:

  • 4.5 day week, plus an extra day off following your weekend on call
  • 2 in 13 weekend and weeknight rota gives an excellent work-life balance
  • All on call shared equally
  • 35 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Generous £1500 CPD allowance (but if you want to do something, just ask!)
  • Certificates encouraged and funded
  • Private medical insurance scheme
  • Company Car with all personal fuel also paid for by the practice
  • BVA, RCVS and one other subscription funded
  • Enhanced maternity pay

If any of that sounds good, then please get in touch, we are happy to have an informal chat.  Alternatively, send your CV and covering letter to: juliepotts@frameswiftandpartners.co.uk

Training and Work Experience

Veterinary Students Placements

We enjoy having students with us as part of their training. We regularly host students from all over the UK as we provide excellent opportunities to gain experience across all species.  We are often fully booked 12 months in advance.  Please complete the form below if you would like to be considered for an EMS placement.

Requirements

As students are seeing clients alongside our vets we expect the same high standards of conduct and professional appearance as we do from our staff. Students should arrive with clean waterproof protective clothing and boots for farm visits, and should be smartly dressed. Placement days run with our working day, so students should arrive for 8:30am, and will finish by 6:30pm. Bringing lunch is recommended.

Work experience

We also regularly offer placements for school students wishing to explore a career in the veterinary industry, either as a vet or a vet nurse. These placements also book up very far in advance, and are usually only provided to those students attending Ullswater Community College, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Appleby Grammar School or Keswick School. Work experience students spend time in the surgery seeing all aspects of small animal work and can also observe any farm or equine cases that attend the practice.
